Google Maps-
a Web-based application that allows users to create their own maps with place marks.
For each place mark, the user can write a description and embed various media elements (e.g. images, links, video feeds).
How it was used in classroom:
Students conducted research for a “Where I’m from”social studies project to identify, locate, and report on their family’s country origin.
As part of the geography unit, students interviewed family members, used research tools, and media resources to describe the contributions of their country and their ancestors to the U.S.
Studentsused personalized place marks to indicate the location of their country on a class Google map, adding a caption and link to the glogster that displayed their research.
Students collaborated with the Media Specialist for assistance with research, made use of note taking skills, created an outline, wrote a draft, revised and edited their writing, and utilized the glosgster as a presentation modem.
